Always

“You always had me. I always had you.” ― Cecelia Ahern, Love, Rosie

Does anyone find it funny when one day in the middle of folding laundry, you realize "Wow, so that's what it was?". It's not everyday that you really understand the phrase "open your eyes". Let me give you a clue...
When the first text messages in the morning come from the person who also sends you the last text message of the day, and you are eager to wake up to them and fall asleep to them. When you get quick phone calls during the day just for a simple update on let's say... what you ate at lunch or how amazing your smile is. The giddiness of looking forward to the weekend for another movie-fest on the couch... or to just read side by side anywhere you may be.

When being "friends" is much more and you wonder... has friendship always been like this? All the times you missed, because you were off chasing failed dreams and love. And you had that one person in your life the entire time, who watched you cry, listened to any and all your conversations about things that shouldn't be talked about.
What is strange and finally the "eye-opener" in all this is having THAT conversation about how you heart ached when you hear about that friend who started a family of their own and on the brink of marriage, and you pretended to be happy, but deep inside there was a pain you couldn't explain, and all you thought of was how unfair it was... all while in a failed relationship with someone else. And you hear from their point of view, that they felt just as hurt when they found out you were back with someone who didn't deserve you, and finding out you had not two, but four sons with the person who didn't deserve or loved you. And finding solace in the arms of another to get the image of her with him out of their mind. And starting a family with someone who wasn't her, and trying to figure out how to fix accidents. Realizing at the last moment that marriage wasn't the right choice.
Wow. How funny life is. To not know that there was so much happening in the past 11 years.

When one door closes, another opens...

Remember when I said one day...

just maybe...
